Review: SofTouch Peristaltic Plus nursing bottle

MY 18-month-old used to suffer from bad colic every evening. I read somewhere that one of the contributing factors of colic in babies is the feeding bottle.

I have tried many other brands and found that while they resulted in less colic, other problems surfaced. For example, the shape of the bottle might not be suitable for her to hold on her own, or there would be back flow on the teat and her neck would get wet from the leakage.

When I got this bottle for review, I thought no harm trying it out to see how it compares with the other brands. So far it’s been pretty good. I am happier seeing her holding the bottle on her own. At this age, her fine motor skills are developing and so it’s important to me to support that development. Amazingly, her colic has also stopped.

The bottle comes in a box that has a front see-through plastic window, making it easier to view the bottle inside. Buyers don’t have to pry open the box to see the contents or its colour. Opening the box was easy once the protective seal on the top is removed.

The bottle alone holds up to 8oz of liquid. The indication on the bottle is so clear and even after washes and sterilising, the indications did not fade. The specially-designed teat can be replaced easily as spare teats are obtainable at every major supermarket, making it very convenient for busy mums like me. I can just swing by any shop or hypermart to purchase them.

Spare parts for this bottle are easier to come across compared to some other brands in the market. The retail price is quite reasonable, too.

The bottle is clear brown in colour and is also BPS (bisphenol S) and BPA (bisphenol A) free. I tried heating breast milk in it and there was no metallic or plastic smell present in the milk.

For my exclusively-breastfed baby, the teat worked perfectly as the flow is almost close to the natural motion of mum’s breast. Pigeon says the SofTouch Peristaltic PLUS teat with AVS (Air Ventilation System) allows baby to use the natural motion as she would if suckling at the breast.

When my baby was holding the bottle, it did not slip through her fingers. She held up the bottle with ease because it was built wide and long enough to be held by babies her age.

I found both the bottle and teat easy to clean, too. In addition, it is suitable for tablet and steam steriliser. The bottle did not lose its shape when it came in contact with hot steam during sterilisation, which happened with another brand of baby bottle that I used.

I would highly recommend this bottle because of all the reasons above, especially that there’s no leakage during feeding.

Pros: I love that it did not lose its shape and that the price is reasonable.

Cons: I wish that it came with a more attractive colour or pattern like Basilic baby bottles.
