Mouseketeer Faiz writes his own songs

He’s one of Malaysia’s very own Mouseketeers. Ahmad Faiz Ahmad Najmuddin @ Najib Omar, or Faiz as he is known on Club Mickey Mouse, speaks four languages – Malay, Mandarin, Japanese and English.

Hailing from Johor Baru, the 15-year-old is ecstatic about becoming a Mouseketeer. Here, he tells us more about himself:

I live in Johor Baru with my parents and two sisters. I am the middle child; my sisters are 20 and 13. My family is an ‘artistic family’. My dad is a chef and he loves singing. That’s probably where I got my love for singing from! My mother is a wedding planner and she’s a very creative person; she loves to sew dresses and create art at home. My older sister is the president of the arts club in her college, and I also think she’s an awesome art designer! My younger sister loves to sing. I think you can see that the love for singing runs in my family!

I want to become an international singer one day. My all-time favourite role model is Shawn Mendes. He’s an amazing singer and I would love to meet him one day. Shawn’s lyrics have positive meanings and they truly inspire me.

I’ve been writing songs for the past few months. I love jazz. I find songwriting a great way to express my feelings and share them with the world, and I hope that people can relate to them! I’m still learning to be a good songwriter and singer though. Currently my songs are in English but I would definitely want to work on some Malay songs too.

I won second place in the 2015 Asia’s Got Talent Superstar Me which was really cool! I also won some academic awards for my Japanese language skills, and was also crowned the Champion of Public Speaking in my middle and secondary school. I’m also in my school’s marching band. I’m a self-declared ‘band geek’ and I love learning about musical rhythm, musical marching, and new musical instruments.

Being a Mouseketeer on Club Mickey Mouse has been such an amazing opportunity and I have learned so much from this experience. It’s been a great platform for me to further develop my potential in singing, acting and dancing. The other Mouseketeers are so inspiring, and I’ve learned a lot from them too. I hope to further develop as an entertainer and to be able to inspire kids to pursue their dreams with courage.

At first, I didn’t think I could become a Mouseketeer. I mean, former Mouseketeers include the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling! But when I found out that Disney Channel was conducting the Club Mickey Mouse Star Search auditions in Malaysia, I screamed so loudly in excitement and begged my parents to let me try out! I’m so glad I had the courage to go for the auditions, and I hope that my experience inspires others to never give up on their dreams.

The experience has motivated me to always strive for the best and never give up. Working with Disney has been a phenomenal experience and I’m so honoured to be part of Malaysia’s first ever group of Mouseketeers!

I hope I can be a successful and healthy person when I grow up, and hopefully be an inspiration for the younger generation. I also want to make sure that I can look after my family as they have always been there for me. For me, music and inspirational quotes are inspiring. Any time I feel sad, these are the two best ways for me to motivate myself to be better.”
