THE Island of Sodor has come to 1 Utama! There is a train station at the shopping complex’s LG Oval Concourse, train tracks and 70 engines in all sorts of colours and designs!
If you and your children love singing the Thomas & Friends theme song and watching the TV series or reading the books, then you know where to head for the next two weeks.
Thomas Town Puteri Harbour in collaboration with Mattel South-East Asia on Wednesday launched the first “Mini and Mighty” Malaysia Tour 2016 at the 1 Utama shopping centre.
There are 70 one-metre-tall Thomas & Friends MINIS engines on display, from the classic engines to the newer themes from the Thomas movies – Dino, Heroes, Spooky, Racers, Neon, Robo, Chillin’ and Metallic.
Fahruddin Najumudeen, general manager of Thomas Town Puteri Harbour, said, “The ‘Mini and Mighty’ Malaysia Tour is the first and largest Thomas MINIS engines showcase in South-East Asia. It will be travelling down south and making stops at several landmarks along the way until it reaches its final destination in Puteri Harbour in December.
“We are very excited to be able to bring this amazing tour to Malaysia, not only as a gesture of acknowledgement and appreciation of existing Thomas enthusiasts, but to also open this range of lovable characters and fun engagement of Thomas & Friends stories to a new public.”
Thomas Town Puteri Harbour is the first Thomas Town indoor theme park in South-East Asia.
Petrina Kho, country manager of Mattel South-East Asia, informed that Thomas & Friends just celebrated its 70th birthday last year.
“For over 70 years, Thomas & Friends has been well loved by kids for its adventures and valuable life lessons. We hope that the exhibition will give them a memorable experience coming up-close and personal with their favourite blue engine and its band of friends in such an amazing setting.
“We want to bring this exhibition to life so that children are able to touch and feel the characters that they’ve seen on TV and in books,” said Kho.
She also mentioned that Mattel has a programme with 120 preschools in the Klang Valley to teach children life-long lessons from Thomas about responsibility, courage, friendship and teamwork – some of the lessons that Thomas is famous for.
There is a host of activities planned during the “tour”, including special Thomas train rides, storytelling, maze challenge, movie screening, cartoon screening, and even a meet and greet session with Sir Topham Hatt (the Fat Controller).
